"IT'S OK TO BE AN ARTIST"
We wish to give an honest and meaningful insight into the immigrant experience and share a story that many Asian-Australians can relate to. We are often persuaded to forget the significance of art and to instead focus on productivity and stability, but this film serves as a plea to support art and the artists that craft it. Art is powerful.
Film has strongly impacted us both and we wish to give back to the community and empower the artists of tomorrow.

REPRESENTATION
The Erhu
In an effort to feature underrepresented parts of Chinese culture, we chose to showcase the Erhu, a two-stringed instrument that produces two individual strands that together create the instrument’s unique sound; a metaphor for Erzi and his mother. We've involved professional Erhu musicians to authentically portray this instrument and its players.
Cast and Crew
One of the most effective ways to inspire emerging talent is through representation. Knowing this, we've specifically cast Asian talent and – where possible – attached underrepresented crew. Mirroring the central conflict in the film, finding Asian-identifying talent based in Queensland was challenging. We're so grateful to have cast Logan and Tracie to portray these characters.
Through connecting and supporting local artists, we wish to create opportunities that promote and inspire Asian-Australian artists and technicians alike.
